I recently came across two quotes that I thought were very applicable to start-ups. The first is Mark Twain's “Persistence and Failure can not co-exist”
How true! - I have found every start-up needs a team that is not just super smart, but that will also persist through all of the inevitable challenges that arise out of a start-up's creative chaos. A start-up will only succeed when team members have unwavering passion for:
- Figuring out what the customer needs
- Engineering the product/service
- Attracting great talent
- Analyzing how technologies, companies or industries will impact the start-up
- Getting customers and cash-flow
Which leads me to the second quote by John Stuart Mill “One person with Belief, is equal to ninety-nine with interest."
True Again! - I guess this is why it is hard for large bureaucracies to compete with passionate startups; just imagine what’s possible if you can get 12 people with passion!
